To do that you will copy everything in the first doc (Ctrl-a to select the whole document) and copy (Ctrl-C). The key to making this work is to be sure you do not bring over the broken styles from the old document, and only the text and formatting. Basically copy all the content of your paper into a new blank document and give it a new name.
